CALVES WITH RINGWORM CANNOT SHOW
________________________________________________________
The Ontario Holstein Branch is dedicated to the education and development of all Ontario dairy youth. As a result, a Junior Show was developed in the West-Central District in 2001, Western Ontario in 2002, East-Central Ontario in 2007 and Eastern Ontario in 2009.
These Junior Shows are for 4-H members 9-13 years of age and are designed to be educational, yet fun for these spirited youth.
The 2-day event starts with the committee, 4-H leaders and experienced fitters helping the 4-Hers to build a proper pack for their calves. Once the calves are washed and dry, professional fitters help the youth with their toplines. The afternoon also includes educational sessions, involving showmanship, equipment care and handling, filling a calf, etc. After dinner, it's time for some fun in the form of a water balloon fight or scavenger hunt.
All 4-Hers are encouraged to camp overnight, under the supervision of committee members and 4-H leaders.
The following day is show day!
Every 4-H member competes in showmanship and conformation, and all members take home a prize. Emphasis is on fun, learning and meeting 4-Hers from other counties, with minimal emphasis on competitiveness.
